Why did you choose Loughborough University?

Loughborough University had the highest reputation for my course. This was important to me because Air Transport Management is such a specialist topic area.

What attracted you to the University in the first place?

Reading the positive comments from graduates who have completed the course attracted me, as did the modules that were listed. I was also attracted to the beautiful campus and its facilities.

What do you enjoy about your course?

Learning about aviation operations and practices and applying what we’ve learnt to real-life situations.

What do you think of the teaching quality and facilities?

It’s good. Some lectures are more interesting to me than others, but I think that’s usually the case.

Do you have a particularly favourite project/module on your course? Why did you enjoy it?

I particularly enjoy Airline Marketing and Airline Operations because they are directly related to my future career plans. I really like the lecturer for these modules, because her extensive knowledge in the field is captivating and she always makes the lectures interesting.

What kind of support have you had in the department and from the University?

If I have issues with my studies I know I can talk to either my personal tutor or another transport lecturer, they are approachable and supportive.

Have you completed a placement whilst at University?

I’ve completed summer work placements with airlines/airports to get a feel for how the industry works. These placements were really helpful in developing an understanding for the type of role I would ideally like to work after graduation. It was also a fantastic opportunity to network with different people, some of whom have years of experience and practice behind them and can offer valuable advice.

What do you hope to do when you graduate, and how will your Loughborough degree support this?

When I graduate, I hope to return to St Helena Island (a British overseas territory) to work in their newly built airport, which is scheduled to open in March 2016. My degree from Loughborough will set me up with the knowledge and specialist skills needed to start a career in aviation.

What would you say to someone considering your course?

If you are serious about working in the transport industry then this is the course for you. It is very transport specific but crucially has core management elements that enable graduates to succeed in transport management roles.

How do you find the social atmosphere on campus?

The social atmosphere is great. In my first year I joined the salsa club and I feel societies are a great way to meet new people who share the same interests as you.

What do you enjoy the most about being a Loughborough University student?

The community feel of the campus.

Has Loughborough inspired you?

Yes. I’ve developed skills and confidence in areas I wasn’t at ease with before, such as the use of statistics programs and giving presentations.
