Industrial placement

All of our courses provide students with the opportunity to undertake a year-long period of professional development in industry. This takes place after the first two years of study and on completion students gain an additional qualification which we call the Diploma in Industrial Studies (DIS).
The DIS year is a fantastic opportunity to gain work experience and improve your employment prospects on graduation. In some instances, students on industrial placements are offered a permanent position by their host company when they graduate. Whilst on placement, DIS students also get a salary, the salary can vary from company to company, but typically this could be in the region of £16,000 per annum.
Finding a placement
We have long established links with many external companies and our students are keenly sought after by companies in the aerospace and automotive industries who know from past experience that Loughborough students are well prepared to take on a variety of tasks.
The Department has a dedicated Industrial Placement Administrator who gathers and supplies information about training opportunities, arranges interview visits in the Department and acts as an intermediary between students and companies.
Supporting you on placement
During the placement period, regular contact is maintained with the Department. Students inform their tutors of the nature of their work and general progress through regular reports. Tutors also visit students at their workplace at least twice a year.
