Structural-acoustic properties of automotive components with elastic shell elements
Many vehicle body parts contain elastic shell elements. For example, the boot floor, although superficially a flat panel, contains a larger curved recess to accommodate the spare tyre. In fact, most parts within the vehicle are curved to some extent.
This project will investigate structural-acoustic properties of automotive shell-type components. The aim of the project is to obtain new scientific results on sound radiation by shell-type panels and to produce guidelines or design tools to minimise noise radiation.
The work will involve mathematical analysis of shell-type elements, computer modelling and experimental verification.
