Composition and Membership

Sir Peter Bonfield, CBE, FREng

Sir Peter has over 45 years’ experience in the fields of electronics, computers and communications. He began his career with Texas Instruments in the USA and, after various design, manufacturing and management roles, joined computer company ICL plc in 1981, where he rose to become Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

In 1996 Sir Peter was appointed as CEO and Chairman of the Executive Committee of British Telecommunications plc, where he served until early 2002. During his tenure, BT was the world's fifth largest telecommunications company, employing over 130,000 people.

Currently, Sir Peter manages a diverse international portfolio of appointments including:  Chairmanship of the Board, NXP Semiconductors NV (NASDAQ: NXPI) in The Netherlands; Chairman of GlobalLogic Inc, USA; Board Directorships with Taiwan’s TSMC and Oregon-based Mentor Graphics Corporation Inc; Board Mentor at CMi in Belgium; Membership of the Longreach Group Advisory Board, Hong Kong; Senior Advisor to Alix Partners and the G3 Good Governance Group, both in London.

In addition, Sir Peter is Chairman of the Board for the East West Institute UK and Board Director for the East West Institute in the USA. 

Sir Peter's career has included non-executive roles at a number of successful businesses, including AstraZeneca PLC and Sony Corporation in Japan.

Sir Peter is a Fellow of several professional bodies, including the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Royal Society of Arts, The Chartered Institute of Marketing and the British Computer Society.   He holds an honours degree in Engineering from Loughborough University.
