The meeting
The conference will involve 20-minute expert talks using new data from animal, cell culture, observational studies and clinical trails, followed by 20 min of opposing views, after which the audience is invited to participate in discussions. Poster sessions are held in the breaks.
Topics discussed are:
-
Do subject characteristics determine the outcome? ('window of opportunity' theory, age of subjects, susceptibility after surgical menopause, the role of exacerbating or moderating factors such as depression, lifetime exposure, genetics etc.)
-
How do we best measure outcomes: are there biomarkers (other than gonadotropins) of hormone efficacy?; which are the best cognitive tests to measure hormone effects?
-
Is there a role for better types (eg SERMs), dosages, or modes of treatment? Are there optimal levels of sex steroid associated with specific cognitive functions etc?
