Simmonds lowers national record again

Lizzie Simmonds has lowered her own British record in the pool with an outstanding performance in the 200m Backstroke.

Swimming in her first ever Olympic final, 17-year-old Simmonds was in third position at the 50m and 100m marks, but fell off the pace to touch sixth in 2:08.51, lowering the time she set in Thursday’s heats.

And Nova Centurion Rebecca Adlington, who trains at the Loughborough pool three times a week, broke a 19-year-old world record to claim gold in the 800m Freestyle. Adlington won in 8:14.10 to add to the gold she took in the 400m Freestyle earlier this week and become only the third Brit ever to win double gold at one Olympics (since the Second World War).
