Best performance for Kwakye in 100m final

Graduate Jeanette Kwakye finished sixth in tonight’s Olympic 100m final as fellow alumni Lee McConnell and Nicola Saunders were knocked out at the 400m semis.

Kwakye set  a new lifetime best of 11.14, shaving five hundredths of a second off the time she set in yesterday’s second round. Jamaica’s athletes dominated the race with all three reaching the podium.

Also this evening, McConnell and Lee have exited the women’s 400m, finishing fourth in 50.71 and 6th in 52.11 in their respective heats.

Loughborough-based Michelle Carey, representing Ireland, finished seventh in her 400m Hurdle heat in 57.99.
