Loughborough hockey pair named GB vice captains for Beijing

A Loughborough University duo are to co-vice-captain the GB men’s hockey side at this summer’s Olympic Games.

Loughborough student Barry Middleton and graduate Glenn Kirkham, both of whom studied Sports Science, have been named today by Head Coach Jason Lee, also a Loughborough graduate. The pair are second in line to captain Ben Hawes of Surbiton.

Middleton (24) will be making his second Olympic appearance, having also appeared at a World Cup, a Commonwealth Games and three European Championships, while 25-year-old Kirkham has picked up over 100 international caps for England and Great Britain since making his international debut in 2003.
