Kellogg out of women’s doubles

Loughborough graduate Donna Kellogg and badminton partner Gail Emms have been knocked out of the women’s doubles on day one of the competition.

The British pairing missed out on a place in the quarter-finals, going down 21-19, 21-13 to China’s number three seeds Wei Yili and Zhang Yawen.

Emms and Kellogg battled back from 19-17 down in the first set to level the scores at 19-all, but the Chinese pair closed out the set and went on to take the second.

“We both have another chance in the mixed doubles and we’re going to go out there and fight as hard as we can,” said Kellogg.

“We knew it was going to be tough and we really rattled them,” added Emms. “If we had taken the first set, things would have been different, but they stepped up and we couldn’t find a way back. We would have loved to beat them, but it wasn’t to be.”
