Bimson out of Olympics with injury

Loughborough graduate Jennie Bimson is out of the Olympics following an injury to her calf muscle.

The British Olympic Association released the following statement today:

'It is with great regret that the BOA has to announce the withdrawal of Jennie Bimson from the Team GB women’s hockey team due to a torn calf muscle.

This is hugely disappointing for Jennie and the team.

Jennie will be replaced by Laura Bartlett, an outstanding replacement, who, as a travelling reserve, is a key member of the squad in Beijing.'

Beijing is Bimson’s Olympic debut, but she has competed for Great Britain more than 30 times, including appearances at the World and European Cups since joining the squad in 1997.
