Long Serving Staff Luncheon
In June 2006, members of staff who began working at the University
during its first academic year in 1966/67 joined Professor Shirley
Pearce, Vice-Chancellor, for a special luncheon to celebrate the
University’s fortieth anniversary. Eighteen long serving
staff members were invited to the luncheon originating from departments
and sections across the campus. On the day the staff shared
reminiscences and recounted the many changes they had witnessed across
the years. The Vice-Chancellor made a impromptu speech thanking
the staff for their loyalty and contribution to the success of the
University. The luncheon was in part supported by IMAGO services
and took place at University House. Pictured here are some
of the guests with the Vice-Chancellor.

Retired Staff Garden Party
After an overwhelmingly positive response to invitations, the University
hosted a large garden party for over 400 retired staff and their
guests on Thursday 6th July. Despite a rainy morning the sun
shone on the Martin Hall Theatre and garden as guests enjoyed sumptuous
afternoon tea and some jazz music whilst catching up with old friends
and colleagues. The Alumni Association mounted a small exhibition
on the University in 1966 and were on hand to invite former staff
to join the Association and keep in touch with the University. The
afternoon was a resounding success and ended with several requests
to make the event a regular fixture in the University’s calendar.

University begins 40th anniversary celebrations
Celebrations to mark Loughborough University's 40th anniversary
officially began on Friday 17th February, when Vice Chancellor Professor
Shirley Pearce and Alumni President Peter Davenport cut a special
cake to commemorate four decades of University success.
"Loughborough University has a long and prestigious heritage.
In this, my first year as Vice Chancellor, I am pleased to celebrate
its many achievements over the past forty years, and am delighted
to contribute to its future development," said Professor Shirley
Pearce.
The first of the 40th anniversary celebrations were held at the
University's meeting of Court - a body of externally
appointed representatives that meets annually to consider the University
Annual Report and Accounts.
A number of other special celebrations were held throughout the
year and a commemorative publication produced to mark the anniversary.
In 2009 Loughborough will celebrate its Centenary, marking a hundred
