Alumnae secure 2018 Commonwealth Games spots
Alumnae Vicky Holland and Sophie Coldwell have been named in Team England’s line-up for the next Commonwealth Games in Australia, and alumna Beth Potter will represent Team Scotland.
Taking place in April 2018, the triathletes are the latest Loughborough sportspeople to secure their places at the international multi-sport event.
Vicky graduated with a degree in Human Biology in 2008. She already holds the Commonwealth triathlon title and the Olympic Bronze from Rio in 2016, having only taken up triathlon during her time at Loughborough.
For Sophie, who graduated this year also with a degree in Human Biology, this is her first senior multi-sport Games after an impressive summer having won European Championship Silver and World U23 Bronze.
“Being selected for Team England is a dream come true and I can’t quite believe that it has happened. Every athlete wants to go to the Commonwealth Games, so to be going now at just 22 I’m so happy.”
After only one year as a triathlete, Beth has been selected to represent Team Scotland at the Games. She competed in the 5,000m and 10,000m at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and is hoping to be selected for the 10,000m next year too. Beth graduated from Loughborough with a degree in Physics in 2013.
“Good things come in 2s...and 3s! I’m delighted to be selected to represent Scotland at my second Commonwealth Games and this time in triathlon. Hopefully I’ll get the chance to do the double on track as well.”
We wish Vicky, Sophie and Beth the best of luck for the games next year.
