Staff Recruitment Advertising Warning - Oct 2011

STAFF RECRUITMENT ADVERTISEMENT WARNING – PLEASE MAKE COLLEAGUES AWARE

Please be aware that unscrupulous publishing companies are making 'cold calls' into the University offering unbelievable discounts on adverts for staff recruitment posts, which often result in a poor quality advert in an unknown publication.

Typically, companies will make contact when you have placed a recruitment advert through the local press. Their offer is often ‘too good to refuse’ as they have had a cancellation and can therefore offer you a space with a huge discount (e.g. £275 reduced from £2,275). Their publication titles often end with the words ‘Review’ ‘Journal’, ‘Times’, ‘Guardian’, ‘Post’ and ‘Business Today’ which lead you to believe that the publication is well known.

If you accept their offer, a poor quality version of your advert is used in an unknown publication, with no guarantees of reaching your target audience. Once they have an e-mail confirming agreement, the University is bound to settle their invoice or be threatened with court action.

If you are contacted with an unbelievable offer, and are unsure what to do, please do not agree to anything until you have spoken with a member of the HR Recruitment Team.

If you have any queries on the above please contact the HR Recruitment Team at recruitment@lboro.ac.uk
