3. Matters Arising from the Minutes

.1 Students’ Union Disciplinary Policy
(DISC06-M2, Min. 21.1 refers)

To receive and note a progress report.

.2 Statute XIV – Amendment
(DISC06-M3, Min 21.4 refers)

To note Council has approved a recommendation to amend Statute XIV.6 (xxiv) (The powers of Senate) to read:

“Subject to the provisions of Statute XXIV, to expel any student who appears to the Senate after consideration of a report from a body establishment under the Ordinance [i.e. a Student Disciplinary Panel] to have been guilty of grave misconduct.”

.3 Dissemination of Information – Student References

To receive and note the advice of the Director of the Careers Centre, together with the current guidelines and to consider how to proceed.

.4 Procedure for Expulsions and Suspensions/Non-compliance with penalties

To note that the Committee’s proposals have been agreed in principle by Senate. Secretary to report on the current position.

6. Ordinance XVII

To review the Ordinance, and to make recommendations to Senate and Council as appropriate.

Areas which the Committee may wish to review include:

Size of the Committee (the need for a larger pool of academic and academic-related staff from which to draw for Hearings, and the associated need to facilitate training)
Procedure where misconduct is also a Criminal Offence.
