from 3 June 2005 Consultation on Proposed Regulation Changes
1. Suggested Amendments
1.1. Regulation XX - Undergraduate Awards
1.1.1.
SECTION A, Paragraph 28.1 (re: condonement)
Proposal
from Human Sciences to change wording from "The module or modules
involved have a total weight of not more than 20 credits in any Part of
the programme." to "The
particular module(s) in which the candidate's performance is/are below the
threshold(s) required to Pass the Part have a total weight of not
more than 20 credits in any Part of the programme."
Note that the
current wording is lifted directly from the existing ARUA and was the subject
of some significant consultation and discussion during 2003/4.
1.1.2.
SECTION B,
Paragraph 1.1 (re. scope)
Some concern from Aero & Auto and Mech & Man that this may be ambiguous or misleading. This is not
however considered to be the case.
In addition, Mech & Man
have suggested that section 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 should be merged to read Mechanical & Manfacturing Engineering. The departments are
listed separately in the regulations, as this reflects the organisational
structure at the time (2000/1 academic year).
Recommendation:
reject
1.1.3.
SECTIONS A & B , Paragraph 6 (re. Part I)
Some concern from PIRES that specific reference to a European
HEI may prove to be restrictive in the future. Proposal for the following
change:
“…Part I, which
shall constitute a period of industrial or professional training and/or study
at an approved Europeannon-UK higher education institution…”.
Recommendation:
accept
