Minutes of the 63rd Meeting
of the Prizes Committee held on 10th November 2004
On the recommendation of the Chair of the Prizes Committee,
Senate is asked to approve the establishment of the following prizes and make a
recommendation to Council.
i)
Pick Everard Prize, to the value of £300, to
be awarded to the student on the MSc Building Services Engineering programme
with the highest overall mark for his/her research project. In the event of two students obtaining equal
marks Pick Everard will be involved in the selecting the recipient of the
prize.
ii)
Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors Prize (book
token), to the value of approximately £40, to be awarded to the postgraduate
student with the best overall performance on either MSc Construction Management
or MSc Construction Project Management.
Drama with a Minor in English
Prize, to the value of £100, to be awarded to the final year
student on the BA Drama with a Minor in English prize with the best overall
academic performance in their final year.
Adidas-Saloman Sports Technology
Prize, to the value of £100, to be awarded to the final year
student on the BSc Sports Technology programme with the best overall academic
performance.
Mavis Prize for Music,
to the value of £150, to be awarded annually to a student who has been
receiving music tuition under the auspices of the university for more than one
year, and who is judged to have achieved the greatest improvement in their
music. The recipient will be selected
by music tutors being invited to nominate, in writing, one person who in his or
her view has achieved the greatest improvement. A small group co-ordinated by The Arts Centre Executive Officer
would consider all nominations and choose a winner.
2.
Amendments
to Existing Prizes
On the recommendation of the Chair of the Prizes Committee,
Senate is asked to approve the amendments to the following existing prizes and
make a recommendation to Council.
2.1 Department of English and Drama
A
change in value, from £75 to £150, and a change in year of award, from second
year to final year, to the Ford
Motor Company Prize.
2.2 Loughborough
University
A change in title and criteria to
the John Guest Philips Memorial Travelling Scholarship, from:

Travelling Scholarship:
An
annual travelling scholarship to the value of £1000 may be awarded to a
registered full-time postgraduate research student. The purpose of the scholarship is to ensure that promising
research students are given the opportunity to extend their knowledge of their
subject, either within this country or overseas

Travelling Scholarships:
Two annual travelling
scholarships, to the value of £500 each, may be awarded to registered full-time postgraduate research
students. One of the Scholarships can
not be used for funding attendance at conferences. The purpose of the scholarships are to ensure
that promising research students are given the opportunity to extend their
knowledge of their subject, either within this country or overseas.
3 Discontinuation
of Prizes
On the recommendation of the Chair of the Prizes Committee, Senate is asked to approve the discontinuation of the following prize and make a recommendation to Council.
