Subject:   Insurance Cover for Emeritus Professors

Executive Summary: This briefing confirms that Emeritus Professors acting in an official capacity for the university are covered by our insurance policy

Action Required: Senate is asked to note that insurance cover is in place for Emeritus Professors

At the meeting of Court, in Feb 2009, the issue of Insurance Cover for Emeritus Professors was raised.

 

The insurance policy for the University provides cover for all staff employed by the University.

 

Therefore, if an Emeritus Professor is engaged by the University in an official capacity, such as visiting fellow, he/she would be covered by our indemnity insurance.

 

Action Required: Departments are therefore reminded of the need to coordinate with their Human Resource advisor, to confirm the contractual status of any Emeritus Professor, in order to ensure that insurance indemnity is provided for the research, or other service, they are undertaking for the University.
