Senate at its June 2008 meeting gave in principle approval for the award of a certificate to students who successfully complete the Science and Engineering Foundation Studies (SEFS) programme but then leave the University.  This was in the context of the decision to validate an International Foundation Programme (IFP) at Loughborough College, and to award a certificate to all students successfully completing the IFP, whether they subsequently entered the first year of a degree programme at Loughborough University or went elsewhere.

It is proposed that the SEFS certificate be called the ‘Certificate in Foundation Studies for Science and Engineering’ and that the criteria for the award be that students must accumulate 100 credits and achieve a minimum of 20% in the remaining module(s) on their SEFS programme.
