Senate
Subject: Constitution
and Membership of the Learning and Teaching Committee
Origin: Learning and Teaching Committee, 5
November 2009
Senate action required: Senate is invited to endorse the actions taken by Learning
and Teaching Committee in relation to the attendance at its meetings of Heads
of Support Services and other members of staff as appropriate, and in inviting
the presence of student observers. The
relevant LTC Minute follows below; the paper setting out the constitution and
updated membership of the Committee is appended.
It was
agreed in the light of a report of discussions in the Programme Quality Team
concerning the membership of Learning and Teaching Committee:
(i)
to
confirm an invitation issued to LSU to nominate, for 2009/10 on a trial basis,
three students, one from each Faculty, from outgoing departmental committee
chairs, to attend LTC meetings as observers;
(ii)
to
approve the arrangements being made for non-members, and in particular Heads of
Support Services, to attend meetings as appropriate to contribute to the
Committee’s discussions;
(iii)
to
leave vacant for the time being the place on the Committee for ‘a
Director of a Support Service contributing to learning and teaching’.
It was
noted that an item ‘Learning Spaces’ would continue to be included
on the agenda for each meeting, for which the Director of Change Projects would
be invited to attend.
A paper
setting out the constitution and updated membership of the Committee was
received by the Committee.
It was
agreed to seek the endorsement of Senate for the actions taken.
Constitution
The Librarian and the Director of IT will receive all
papers and a standing invitation to attend for any item of business relating to
the services they provide if they are not a full member of the Committee under
any category above. The Director of Change Projects
will similarly receive all papers and a standing invitation to attend for any
item of business within her area of responsibility. The Director of Student Services
will also receive all papers and a standing invitation to attend.
For 2009/10 on a trial basis,
the LSU Executive is invited to appoint one student from each Faculty from
amongst the outgoing departmental student committee chairs in the Faculty to
attend meetings of LTC as an observer.
