 The Committee noted its constitution and membership. It was RESOLVED to RECOMMEND amendments in the terms of reference to Senate.

Secretary's Note

Revised terms of reference are set out below. Amendments have been introduced into para 5 to acknowledge the fact that the processes of modularisation and semesterisation have been completed and into para 6 in the light of organisational changes in the supporting committee structure.

Terms of Reference

  1. To advise Senate on matters of policy relating to teaching and learning.
  2. In the light of agreed institutional aims and objectives, to keep under review and monitor the structures and mechanisms in place for quality assurance and control, to receive relevant statistical indicators, and to promote measures to improve the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning in the University.
  3. To encourage and monitor good practice and innovation in teaching and learning; and in the assessment of student performance.
  4. To keep under review Regulations relating to the conduct of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  5. To keep under review the operation of the University's modular, credit-based curriculum framework, the semesterised academic year, and the associated assessment processes, and to advise Senate on potential areas for development.
  6. To receive reports and recommendations from the Programme Development & Quality Team, the Curriculum Sub-Committee and the Academic Services Network Group.
  7. To keep under review the activities of the Quality Assessment Unit and to receive annual reports therefrom.
  8. To receive reports from Associate Deans (Teaching) on appropriate Faculty matters including annual and periodic programme reviews.
  9. To consider such other issues related to teaching and learning as may be referred to it by Senate.
  10. To report to Senate and offer advice as appropriate after each meeting.
