Subject: Ordinance 1 : Admission of Students

Origin: Secretary

Paragraph 4 of the current version of Ordinance I states that "Except by special permission of the Vice-Chancellor, no person shall be admitted as a student who will not have attained the age of 17 years on the date of commencement of the course."

With the merger of the University with Loughborough College of Art and Design and the establishment of LUSAD, the University is now responsible for providing Further Education provision that was formerly the responsibility of LCAD. Students can enter Further Education at 16 years of age and it would not be practical for the Vice-Chancellor to formally approve the admission of such students each year.

It is therefore proposed that Ordinance I para 4 be amended to read as follows:

"Except by special permission of the Vice-Chancellor, no person, other than one following a programme of Further Education, shall be admitted as a student who will not have attained the age of 17 years on the date of commencement of the course."
