Subject: Progress on the development of the Student
Hub since June 2008
Recent developments
During July 2008 the
student hub working group consisting of Stephanie McKeating (Library) and Yvonne
Hamblin (Careers) worked with Steve
Ashurst of Media Services to develop the design and content for the hub
website. Feedback from Skills Forum
members was received during early August on the initial version of the site and
work began to try and organise the hosting of the hub microsite. There was a
longer delay than was anticipated in getting a web address and directory set up
in which to host the student hub site. This was finally achieved in the week
before the start of term. Unfortunately
a number of the contributing services had revised their own web pages over the
summer and as a result many of the links on the original site no longer worked.
Clearly it was not desirable to launch a site with a large number of broken
links on it and we have spent the last few weeks undertaking the amendments,
although this has inevitably been slow work given the heavy workload of all
concerned at the start of the academic year.
The files have just been
made live at http://www.lboro.ac.uk/students/hub/
although at present there are no links to the site from elsewhere on the
University website. All the site contributors were asked for feedback (by 24th
Oct) to ensure that they were happy with content before it is launched to the
students. A request has been made to
Jonathan Walters, the Web Development Manager that a link is added to the Current
students page at http://www.lboro.ac.uk/students/ together with an advertising
banner at the top of the page. The timescale for this will determine the
earliest time at which we will be able to launch the site to the students.
Other contributors will also be able to add links from their own web pages.
