Recent progress on the development of the
Student Hub
The student hub working
group consisting of Stephanie McKeating (Library), Yvonne Hamblin (Careers) and
Sophie Driscoll (Student Union) met the University Web Development Manager,
Jonathan Walters, in mid-February to explore how the development of the student
hub would fit in with the current reshaping of the University website. It was
agreed that the student hub would exist as a standalone micro-site rather than
be incorporated into the revised “Information for Current Students”
webpage. The draft designs produced by Karen Roxborough and possible site
structure were presented to members of the Skills Forum at their meeting on 10th
March and useful feedback was received. Skills Forum members were asked to
assess their existing web pages to help identify the material to which the hub
would link.
A meeting was held with
Media Services on 17th April to discuss conversion of the draft designs into
web format. Following that the working group members have been contacting
Skills Forum members to firm up the site structure and confirm which links and
content are going to be used. A number
of the stakeholders we have spoken to have told us that their web pages are
being revamped over the summer so the links and associated text may have to be
edited accordingly.
On 15th May two
possible web concepts for consideration were received from Media Services and
these are being circulated to Skills Forum members and other interested parties
for feedback. The working group are
planning to organise a further meeting with Media Services in the near future
to confirm the preferred design concepts and organise the populating of the
site with the proposed content.
