Subject:          Report of Curriculum Sub-Committee – Matters for Information

 

Origin             Unconfirmed Minutes of the Meeting on 4 May 2006


 

Learning and Teaching Committee is invited to note the following items from the meeting of Curriculum Sub-Committee held on 4 May 2006.

 

1.       Matters Arising from the Minutes

.1         It was noted that all recommendations to Learning and Teaching Committee, and subsequently to Senate where appropriate, had been approved. The relevant minute of Senate was noted.

 

.2         Minute 06/3 Placement Modules

            It was noted that:

(a)               The proposals for changes to the transcript template had been forwarded to the LUSI Project team

(b)               The titles of placement modules had been amended

(c)               Departments had been requested to submit placement module specifications to their AD(T) by 28 April 2006   

           

.3         Minute 06/5 MRes Human Biology/MRes Ergonomics/MRes Psychology

The Sub-Committee noted the recommendation of Learning and Teaching on the award of the PGDip and PGCert on MRes programmes, approved by Senate on 1 March 2006.

 

.4         Minute 06/6.3 MRes Sustainability Management (in Engineering): New Programme Proposals

            It was noted that the proposal form for new programmes now had a web link to a list of identified Programme Specification exemplars.

 

.5         Minute 06/12 MSc Economics and Finance/Financial Economics/International Finance and Economics/Monetary Economics/Banking and Finance/International Banking: Major Programme changes          

            It was noted that, at the request of the Department of Economics, the Chair had recommended to the Chair of Learning and Teaching Committee that the proposed changes be rescinded.

 

.6         Any other matters arising not appearing elsewhere on the Agenda.

 

 

2.       Major Changes to Programme Regulations

 

It was AGREED to approve the following procedure for the approval of major changes to Programme Regulations for the period to October 2006. Proposals should receive Curriculum Sub-Committee consideration by post at the discretion of the Chair. Where concerns were raised a second circulation would summarise  these and invite a formal decision. The Chair would be empowered to determine whether the replies constituted a consensus.

 

 

3.       Annual Update of Module Specifications and Programme Regulations/Specifications

The Sub-Committee noted:

 

            CSC06-P43

.1         The memorandum circulated to departments on 28 February 2006 (without Annexes).

 

            CSC06-P44 and CSC06-P45

.2         The proposal forms for Module Specification and Programme Regulation/Specification changes for 2006/07.

 

            CSC06-P46

.3         Validated Programmes: The procedure and timetable for revision and approval of Module Specifications and Programme Regulations/Specifications for 2006/07.
