Subject: Actions of the Associate Dean (Teaching)
The Board is invited to ratify actions of the Associate Dean (Teaching) in:
·
Approving a waiver of regulations for the 2006-07
academic year to allow Part D Systems Engineering students to take up to 30
credits of Part C broadening modules in that year. Current regulations preventing students from
taking more than 20 credits of optional modules in Part C have caused
problems. MEng regulations were written
so that modules from the Departments of Aeronautical and Automotive
Engineering, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Human Sciences and from
IPTME are taken in Part B, but these modules are suitable as pre-requisites for
only a small number of Part C modules in those Departments. Part D students have found that they are
effectively prevented from taking Part D modules in other Departments (where
they exist) because of their lack of suitable pre-requisites. PDQ is considering the broader issue.
