Subject: Actions of the Associate Dean (Teaching)
- Allowing
a part-time MSc Mechatronics and Optical Engineering student, who gained
45 credits but was unable to continue because of work commitments, to
transfer 30 of these credits to the MSc Mechatronics programme, and enable
him to complete his studies. The
former programme has been discontinued, and this arrangement is believed
preferable to maintaining a discontinued programme and seeking an
extension of studies.
- Approving
an extension of one year to two part-time MSc Electrical Power Generation
students who are approaching their 8th year of registration,
but who have been subject to changes of jobs and location.
- Approving
an extension of study period for a part-time MSc student in the Wolfson
School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. The student had completed all taught
modules but personal reasons prevented him from completing his major
project in the final year..
- Approving the transfer of an
MEng Systems Engineering student, whose dyslexia was only recognised after
he came to University, who has failed Part A, to transfer to Part A of the
BEng Systems Engineering programme.
The student’s previous credit would be written off. This proposal has the support of the
relevant programme board.
- Approving a waiver of
regulations to allow Part D students in Systems Engineering to take up to
40 credits of Part C modules that are intended to broaden the subject,
instead of the current restriction of a maximum of 20 credits of optional
modules.
- Approving a deferment of
reassessment of an MSc module to the next session. The student was called at 12 hours
notice to travel from one overseas country to another to work on disaster
relief, and it was unlikely he had taken the necessary course materials
with him.
- Approving a waiver to permit a
part-time MSc student to obtain a degree on the programme for which he is
registered, even though one of the optional modules he has studied was not
listed on that programme. It
sometimes happens that a student selects an option outwith his own
programme but which is more appropriate to his experience, availability
and interest, and which does not significantly affect the nature of the
chosen programme.
Approving a waiver of regulations to allow the last part-time student
registered on the discontinued MSc Airport Planning and Management
programme to substitute core module CVP086 Applied Research Methods with
CVP079 Applied Research Methods. A
very late change in the CVP086 timetable meant the student was unable to
attend that module; the alternative
module will enable him to complete the programme during the current
academic year.
