This form is available at http://www.lboro.ac.uk/admin/ar/templates/index.htm

Spaces can be expanded as required.

1.     Name of Department and Departmental contact

Civil and Building Engineering, Dr Patricia Carrillo

2.     Programme Title and Award

        MSc in Construction Project Management

3.     Please tick any of the following which apply.  At least one box should be ticked.

X      The status of one or more modules will change from compulsory to optional

X      The status of one or more modules will change from optional to compulsory

X      The module choice available to students will be reduced

The semester(s) in which modules are taught will change

In one or more Parts of the programme, the proposal is to withdraw optional modules with a total weight

                 of 30 or more

Progression or degree qualification rules will change

The addition of distance learning/ partial DL provision

            First submission of Programme Specification

            Changes only to Programme Specification

            Any other changes

Do you consider these changes to be  X  Major     Minor

The above changes should be outlined in Section 5 below

4.     Reasons for the proposal: its purpose and relevance; how it will maintain or enhance the quality of teaching and learning; implications for existing programmes and modules

The changes are needed to create a greater distinction between this programme and the sister programme (MSc in Construction Management).  The programme’s contents have been reviewed with input from two major Project Management companies to update its contents and thereby provide key skills required by a modern Project Manager.

5.     Outline of new/amended content: what elements are new, what is changing

The changes are two fold: (1) the introduction of modules to provide expertise in key Construction Project Management subjects; and (2) providing a core of compulsory modules accounting for 140 credits with the remaining 40 credits selected from a possible 130 credits.

6.     If the revised Regulations apply to existing students, state the implications for students currently on placement/ leave of absence and resit students.

The changes will affect current part-time students.  These are in the minority.  At present .. such students.  Each case will be examine din detail by the Programme Tutor and recommendations made as to the closest match for the remaining compulsory modules required for the programme.   In reality only one previously compulsory module has been withdrawn, the remaining compulsory modules have been re-packaged and are thus available for selection.

7.     Staffing implications - adequacy of existing departmental resources; net increase/reduction in staff teaching effort or demands on support staff

The Director of Postgraduate Studies has been involved in producing these proposed changes.  These were then taken to the Head of Department who has agreed to the changes and appointed Internal Examiners for the new modules.

8.     Financial implications - anticipated effect on departmental income and expenditure

These changes are considered to have a positive impact in terms of delivering a product better suited to the needs of industry.  In addition, it removes the teaching bought-in from another department and places it within the department.

9.     Additional Library requirements

        Library consulted       Yes

X    N/A  This is fundamentally the introduction of 2 completely new modules and the re-packaging of existing modules

10.   Additional Computing Support required                                       Computing Services Consulted      Yes

            Network/Software (please elaborate):

Lab space (please elaborate):                                                                                                    X   N/A

11.       Other resource implications, e.g. -; lecture room, lab and other space requirements; equipment, materials; timetabling constraints (block-teaching for example); any special residential requirements

Space requirements is considered to be a key issue.  At the moments the students on the MSc Construction Project Management programme are always taught jointly with the MSc in Construction Management students.  The revised programme will require additional small classrooms from the pool room stock.

12.   Implications for other departments, both providing and receiving

The proposal will include the withdrawal of a module from the Business School
