Subject:        Programme Structures – Degree Titles

Origin:           Programme Development and  Quality Team

Since the previous meeting of LTC, the Programme Development and Quality Team has held further discussions with the Chair of Curriculum Sub-Committee on the subject of degree titles, and the Curriculum Sub-Committee has given further consideration to the matter.  A note of the Sub-Committee’s discussions is included in its report under Section C of the current agenda.

The PDQ Team received the same feedback from the Curriculum Sub-Committee at its meeting on 19 January and noted continuing concern over terminology issues.  The Team came to the following view:

The Team favoured a model in which a group or suite of programmes could be created under a name which did not apply to any one programme within the group/suite.  Students would register on a single programme within the group.

This was preferable to a model where the group/suite was referred to as the programme, comprising several different titles or pathways, as this had greater implications for current terminology.

It was resolved to report the view of the Team to LTC for endorsement.
