Subject: Programme Specifications (response to Minute 03/15.3)

Section 2 is not a list of subject benchmark statements, it is a list of external and internal reference points, including benchmarks if they exist, used by the department in preparing the programme specification. So, it is a matter for the authors of the programme specification which reference points (it doesn’t say documents necessarily) or documents they use. I have to say that I think the original advice we sent out to departments is adequate, and since there will be so much variation between departments and disciplines, I’m not sure that the sort of formulaic advice which I suspect the sub-committee wants is appropriate. Maybe it is for the committee to ask the authors to justify the inclusion of some items, rather than for us to legislate in any global way.
