06/19 Honorary Degrees

Pursuant to Statute XVIII, on the recommendation of Senate and with the advice of the Honorary Degrees Committee, Council APPROVED the issuing of invitations to persons to receive Honorary Degrees at Graduation Ceremonies in 2006 onwards and offered its warmest congratulations to Margaret Tomlinson.

Council APPROVED the issue of invitations to receive University Medals at Graduation Ceremonies in 2006.

06/21 Appointment of Pro-Vice-Chancellors

06/21.1 Appointment of Joint Committees

Council NOTED that the Chair of Council had taken action between meetings to appoint Alan A Woods to the Joint Committees for the Appointment of the PVC(R) and the PVC(T).

06/21.2 Recommendations from the Joint Committees

Council APPROVED the appointment of Professor Peter Golding as PVC(R) until 31 July 2009 and the re-appointment of Professor Morag Bell as PVC(T) until 31 July 2009.

06/22 Appointment of Dean of Science

Council DELEGATED authority to the Chair of Council to approve recommendations regarding the appointment of the Dean of Science.

Council RECEIVED a report of the Meeting of Human Resources Committee held on 14 February 2006 and, on the recommendation of Senate, APPROVED:

i. Award of Honorary Titles

ii. Procedures relating to the Retention of Lecturers

06/24 Appointment of Acting Head of Department – Electronic and Electrical Engineering

Council NOTED that, on the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor (acting on behalf of Senate), the Chair of Council had taken action between meetings to appoint Professor Yiannis Vardaxoglou as acting Head of Department for Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

Council NOTED that the Registrar (with delegated authority) had approved, in accordance with Statute XXII and Ordinance XII, extensions of appointment beyond retirement date.
