The next (Special) Meeting of the University Council will be held on Tuesday 20 December 2005 immediately following the close of the (Ordinary) Meeting in the Council Chamber, Administration Building 2.

4.                 Appointment of Deputy Vice-Chancellor

To approve a recommendation regarding the appointment of the next Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

5.                 Structural Deficit Departments: Progress Report

6.                 Honorary Degrees

COUN05-P132 (to be tabled)

Pursuant to Statute XVIII, on the recommendation of Senate and with the advice of the Honorary Degrees Committee, to approve the issuing of invitations to persons to receive Honorary Degrees at Graduation Ceremonies in 2006.

7.                 Appointment of Treasurer and Pro-Chancellors

To delegate authority to the Chair of Council (if the February 2006 [if required] meeting is not called) to approve recommendations from the Nominations Committee to Court regarding the appointment of the Treasurer and Pro-Chancellors from February 2006.

                                                                                                                                                                

SECTION B: Items for Approval

*8.     Extension of Appointments

To note that, on the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor (Chair of Senate), the Registrar (with delegated authority) has approved, in accordance with Statute XXII and Ordinance XII, the following extensions of appointment beyond their normal retirement date:

§           Professor Sasha Alexandrov, Physics for two years from September 2011 (conditional upon successful Fellowship application)

§           Dr Ralph Dahn, IPTME, for six months from 1 October 2005

§           David Hoare, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, for a further year until August 2006 at 0.1 FTE

§           Frances Howard, Academic Registry, until 31 December 2005 at nine hours per week.

To receive a report from the meeting of the Human Resources Committee held on insert date and to approve the following recommendations:

i.         Updated version of the Harrassment Policy (minute 05/23 and Annex A refer)

ii.       New Ill-Health Dismissal Appeals Procedure (minute 05/24 and Annex B refer)
