It was RESOLVED to CONFIRM the Minutes of the 311th Meeting of the Council held on 29 October 2004 [COUN04-M8].
COUN04-P120
Council considered proposals from the Faculty of Engineering and, on the recommendation of
Senate, APPROVED the closure of the Department of Systems Engineering and its
assimilation with the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering from
31 December 2004. The consequent
dissolution of the School of Aeronautical, Automotive and Systems Engineering,
which had existed in name only, was also APPROVED.
04/157 Honorary
Degrees
COUN04-P121
Pursuant to Statute XVIII, on the recommendation of Senate and with the
advice of the Honorary Degrees Committee, Council APPROVED the issuing of invitations to persons to receive Honorary Degrees at
Graduation Ceremonies in 2005.
Members were reminded that the names of individuals nominated should
remain confidential until they had been contacted in the New Year.
The Vice-Chancellor informed Council that there would be a second round
of nominations for individuals to receive Honorary Degrees in the New Year.

of next Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities
On the recommendation of Senate,
Council APPROVED the appointment of the Joint Committee to recommend the next
Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities as follows:
Chair: Vice-Chancellor (ex-officio)

members of the SSH Faculty Board (nominated by the Faculty Board): Professor D

04/159 Deputy Vice-Chancellor Appointment
(ii) Council APPROVED a recommendation from the Appointment Committee for the Deputy Vice-Chancellor that Professor P H Roberts’ appointment as Deputy Vice-Chancellor be extended to 31 July 2006. This would allow for continuity at the senior management level following the appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor.
