Mature Student Events
A variety of events are run specifically for mature students throughout each academic year. They are a great opportunity to meet people in a similar situation and make new friends.
Mature Students Induction – 26 September 2012
To help new mature students to meet each other and settle in, we held an informal ‘Induction Day’ a couple of weeks before term begins. All new undergraduate students aged 21+ at registration were invited to join this day.
The day was a great opportunity to learn more about the University and what it can offer you. It also detailed specific learning, and personal and study support services that are available to all mature students.
Joining this optional event gives new mature students an opportunity to:
- Meet other mature students – fellow first years, and also students who have been at Loughborough for a year or two already
- Talk informally with academic members of staff from various departments
- Address any concerns or questions that new students might have, in an informal environment
IIf you have applied to the University and have a place confirmed, you will normally receive an email invitation to this event during the summer before you register.
For more information on this event please contact Kay Bridger

Study Skills Courses and Workshops
The Library offers a wide range of study skills courses and workshops that run throughout the year.
During the October of every academic year the Library, in conjunction with Student Outreach and Recruitment offers a mature student specific workshop to help new mature students gain an understanding of the different ways of learning at University. The workshop covers topics such as time management, reading & note-taking, report & essay writing, oral presentations, and revision & exam skills, and assists students to identify any areas which need further development.

Bring Your Family Event
Creating a Colourful Life – Date TBC
This event, during the Family Learning Festival provided a great opportunity for new mature students to bring their families on to campus to see where their loved ones are studying. Together, they learned about the cool science of colour and took part in a range of exciting activities including:
- creating their own paints using eggs
- sending secret messages to each other using lemon juice and cabbages
- using Ultra Violet lights to reveal special markings on money
- making rocks magically change colour
Everyone was also given the opportunity to paint either their own mug or money-box using special UV and glitter paints which they took home afterwards.
