Short Report from Leila Byrne
Department of Design & Technology
of work carried out in Parchur, South India
The money Loughborough University gave in support of this project in South India was used in the development of a home for widows in the village of Parchur. Here the widows will be able to live in a community that provides them with practical support and gives them the respect not always afforded them in the current culture. Our team of seven people with an organisation called Soapbox carried out the building work with local builders. We were there for 3 weeks and completed the whole of the first storey in that time. The community also benefited from the friendship shown and the children’s activities we provided each day.
