Ede & Ravenscroft Award 2002-2003

Report by Richard Schofield
Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering

The money which was awarded to me by the Ede and Ravenscroft Prize fund made a valuable contribution to my summer in Japan. I have returned to the UK after spending the last 3 months working for Panasonic Mobile Communications in Yokohama, where I was involved in the design of mobile phones. Although this experience was invaluable in terms of my academic study, I am reading Product Design and Manufacture in the Wolfson School, the money gave me the opportunity to travel, and see what Japan is like beyond the overcrowding of Tokyo. This photo shows me in front of Daibutsu, the second largest image of Buddha in Japan. I would like to express my gratitude to the university for turning a worthwhile endeavour into an unforgettable experience.
