Award Usage – UEFA “A” Coaching Licence
The prestigious UEFA “A” Licence held once a year across the country, this time counted Burleigh Court, Loughborough University as its base for the first of the three-week contact periods. 27 fellow candidates arrived on the first day and were greeted by the course staff made up of 4 of the England Youth Coaching Team and headed up by U-18 coach, Martin Hunter.
Fellow candidates on the two parts of the course based at Burleigh included ex-England internationals David Platt, Stuart Pearce, and Gordon Cowans as well as a host of ex-professionals including Gianluca Vialli, Glyn Hodges, Tony Parks, Martin Foyle and Bob Latchford.
Most days saw us start in the class room for the first 3 hours before heading for the pitches where we were given the opportunity to observe and then practice a series of coaching techniques, styles and strategies across a breadth of technical topics.
We would then return to the classroom for theory-based feedback from the day’s sessions using videos, match analysis and player profiling to back up our practical knowledge.
From a personal standpoint, the course in itself although fantastic was complimented magnificently by the opportunity to sit down with some of the greatest thinkers in modern football and throw ideas around about the game through into the early hours!
With the first of our contact sessions now complete much of the hard graft now begins with projects, presentations, research and coaching hours needed to be completed alongside my already hectic schedule which includes work at a number of professional clubs as well as with the University sides, A Lucozade-sponsored dissertation into the effects of Carbohydrate Ingestion on Soccer skill performance and the heavy demands of planning a wedding!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those concerned for generously providing me with the financial award mentioned above that helped me enormously, facilitating the opportunity to attend a course that has already shaped and influenced my current and future work.
