Lockley Travel Bursary
Sports Technology Research Group
used the prize money to visit Bavaria
in the South East of Germany. The trip was split into three sections. The first
part of the trip consisted of attending the 6th International
Conference on Sports Engineering, which ties in with my PhD field of work. I
also presented my first conference paper at this event, which was being held in
the Olympia Park
in historic Munich.
second part of my visit consisted of travelling up to Nurnberg
to visit ex-colleagues from adidas, who I worked with
before starting my PhD. I even managed a trip to the adidas
outlet store which is based in Herzogenaurach which
is where both puma and adidas HQ’s are based.
I travelled back to Munich to spend a day at
ISPO 06, which is the largest sports goods exhibition
held annually within Europe. I therefore had
the chance to speak with prospective employers and see the latest innovations
within the sports industry. The week spent in Germany allowed me to pick up a few
new phrases in German, so on the whole the trip was really enjoyable.
