Research Student Office
The Research Student Office is located on the first floor of the Rutland Building (No 67 on the Campus Map). Staff are available to assist with enquiries throughout the week from 9:30am - 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9:30am - 4:30pm Fridays.

The Research Student Office's main responsibilities are:
- to operate a central admissions process in accordance with the University's minimum matriculation standards
- to ensure the observance of the University's regulations on Higher Degrees by research
- to liaise with external bodies including the Research Councils and provide information by externally imposed deadlines
- to ensure a rapid turnaround of research student application forms (normally within three working days of receipt) and the prompt dispatch of decisions (normally within five working days)
- to administer efficient procedures for monitoring the progress of research students
- to process matters relating to research students in connection with registration and the examination of theses
- to process payments for External Examiners in accordance with the schedule for payments issued by the Finance Office
- to administer payments to research students in receipt of funding for their research from external sponsors and Research Councils.
- to provide advice to prospective students, current students and academic departments on matters relating to higher degrees by research at the University.
