How can I obtain funding for my research degree?

Funding may be available from a range of sources.In addition to consulting the postgraduate prospectus and bursaries web pages, please also contact your proposed department to see if there are further opportunities there.

When I submit my research application do I need to submit a research proposal?

The application form does ask you to describe your research topic.  You might find it helpful to consult the online postgraduate prospectus entry for your proposed department before completing this section.

Can I start my research at any time of the year?

It is possible to commence your research at any time of the year. You would however be formally registered from one of four dates 1 Oct, 1 dec, 1 April, 1 July, whichever is closest to your arrival date. Some programmes such as the EngD and the new Route PhD have a preferred start date of 1 October, because of the taught elements to these programmes, nevertheless some flexibility may also be possible on these programmes too.

How can I find out about the progress of my research application?

It can take up to six weeks for a decision to be made on your application, depending on the availability of your referees. If you are anxious to know about the progress of your application, please email pgresearch@lboro.ac.uk.
