Appendix 19d - Summary of Procedures Relating To Undergraduate Applicants With Additional Needs
i. Section 8 of the UCAS application form provides for information to be entered about a physical or other disability or medical condition which might necessitate special arrangements or facilities. In the accompanying instructions applicants are strongly advised to consider this section carefully. The following categories are identified:-

2 You are blind/partially sighted.
3 You are deaf/partial hearing
4 You are a wheelchair user/have mobility difficulties
6 You have mental health difficulties.
7 You have an unseen disability, eg diabetes, epilepsy, asthma.
8 You have two or more of the above disabilities/special needs.
9 You have a disability or special need not listed above.
T You have an Autistic disorder
ii. Each application form is checked when it arrives in the Admissions Office to see whether an entry has been made in section 8. Where this has occurred the form is annotated for the assistance of the admissions tutor and a note is made on the record kept in the Admissions Office. Staff in the Disabilities and Additional Needs Service are made aware of the applicant, and are then able to access their details directly from the UCAS database. The application is then forwarded to the relevant admissions tutor for consideration and he/she will liaise with the Disabilities and Additional Needs Support Service as appropriate. The Disabilities and Additional Needs Support Service will offer the assistance of the Service to Departments in appropriate cases. The progress of each application is monitored and the central record is updated to include the decision taken and, where an offer has been made, the applicant’s reply.
iii. Where appropriate, the specific needs of applicants whose places at Loughborough are confirmed, are drawn to the attention of the Student Accommodation Service to facilitate the reservation of an adapted room. The accommodation preference form issued at an earlier stage will have given the applicant an opportunity to identify any special requirements. Any applicant declaring a disability or special need warranting adapted accommodation is given a special entry on the accommodation preference database, thereby ensuring that he/she will be allocated to a Hall of Residence offering the required additional facility. The Warden of the Hall in question is then notified so that the relevant room can be reserved.
