Access to Learning Fund

Loughborough University has been granted an Access to Learning fund totalling £153,198 by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (via HEFCE) for 20010/11 to enable financial help to be given to full-time and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate students (home-UK only) 'whose access to further or higher education might be inhibited by financial considerations or who, for whatever reason, including physical or other disabilities, have financial difficulties associated with their living costs'.

Decisions about applications for assistance are taken by an Access to Learning Panel, the membership of which includes an academic from each Faculty and Students' Union representatives. The Panel reports to the Student Services Committee and operates within priority guidelines approved by the Committee.

The Student Support Centre offers a hardship fund advisory service to students which is confidential and covers matters such as the completion of the application form. Forms can be obtained from the Student Support Centre, located in building 56 on the campus map.

International Students Emergency Payment Fund

The University also operates an internal Emergency Payment Fund to provide assistance to International students finding it difficult to meet expenses that are unforeseen or related to an emergency situation. This fund is generously supported by the Alumni Development Trust.

Further information about both of these Funds can be obtained from the Student Support Centre (Tel. 01509 222058)
