What happens on the day?
On the Day - September Ceremonies
- Before the ceremony starts – 11.00 am ceremony
- Before the ceremony starts - 3.00 pm ceremony

Before the ceremony starts – Morning Ceremony : 11.00 am
8.30am – 10.30am
- Register with the Graduation Office in Foyer of the Martin Hall. You need to bring your e-tickets with you. When you register, you will be allocated a seat number. It is essential that you sit in this seat during the ceremony.
- Collect your academic dress from Ede and Ravenscroft who will be in Martin Hall Theatre (behind the registration desk). (Open from 8.15 am)
- If time permits, you may wish to visit Victory Hall to have photographs taken by Success Photography, the University's official photographers.
10.30 am
- Sir David Wallace Building Sports Hall opens
By 10.45 am at the latest
- All students and guests must be in their seats.
- Students should sit in the seat allocated upon registration.
- Guests do not have allocated seats but will be admitted to the hall upon production of guest tickets and directed to a seat by ushers.
11.00 am Ceremony Starts – see Ceremony Proceedings
Before the ceremony starts - Afternoon ceremony : 3.00 pm
1.00 pm - 2.30 pm
- Collect your academic dress from Ede and Ravenscroft who will also be in Martin Hall.
- If time permits, you may wish to visit Victory Hall to have photographs taken by Success Photography, the University's official photographers.
1.00 pm - 2.30 pm

3.00 pm Ceremony Starts - see Ceremony Proceedings
Ceremony Proceedings
- Academic Procession enters the hall and takes their seats on the stage
- Chancellor opens the ceremony
- Vice-Chancellor addresses the audience
- Students are led from their seats to the front of the hall where they are asked for their name and to wait at the top of the stairs.
- Students cross the stage as their name is called by the Dean
- Students shake hands with the Chancellor and then proceed to the other side of the stage
- Students collect certificate from Head of Department before leaving the stage
- Students return to their seats
- At the mid point in the ceremony the Honorary Graduands will be presented with their awards.
- Once all the students have been presented the Chancellor addresses the audience
- The Academic Procession leaves the hall followed by the graduands
- The guests leave the hall
Ceremonies last approximately 90 minutes
After the Ceremony
Before 5.30pm
Return academic dress to Ede and Ravenscroft in Martin Hall Theatre. It would be appreciated if those students who attended the morning session could avoid returning their gowns between 1.00pm and 3.00pm as this will help to reduce congestion whilst students are registering for the afternoon ceremony.
