Part-time work/Working while a student
Part-time employment whilst registered as a student is growing in popularity, as is the option of spending a year of paid employment in industry as part of a degree programme. More information on sandwich years can be found in the undergraduate prospectus.
Part-time work is an excellent way to gain a small income while you study and a way to gain experience, develop personal skills and increase your employability. Just make sure it doesn't interfere with your studies! Loughborough Students' Union runs an employment exchange which can be used to find part-time vacancies in the local area.
Sports Scholarships
Sports scholarships are available to elite athletes from a number of different sports. To be eligible for consideration for a sports scholarship you will have excelled at least a junior international level (or equivalent) in your sport and have fulfilled the normal academic requirements for either undergraduate or postgraduate entry.
The benefits of scholarship include financial support each academic year, first class coaching, access to extensive training and competition facilities, sports medicine and sports science support, and a life skills programme. Students who meet the following criteria will be eligible for consideration:
- UK nationality
- Born, or now have permanent residence in Scotland.
- Paying UK tuition fees

The form will include an opportunity for the applicant to enter a supporting statement explaining why they have chosen their particular course and why they feel they should be awarded the scholarship. The selection process will be carried out after the publication of the SQA Higher and Advanced Higher and GCE A Level examination results in August 2011 and will be confined to applicants who are successful in gaining a place. The selection panel will take account of the following, in the order given:
- Academic achievement
- The applicant’s supporting statement

The successful award holder will be notified in September.
