Tuition Fees & Other Costs for UK/EU Students

At a glance

In the academic year 2007/8 the tuition fee for Loughborough University's undergraduate degree courses will be £3070, reflecting our position as one of the top 10 UK universities and our excellent teaching standards.

We are confident that you will see the fee as an investment in your future. Loughborough has an excellent graduate employment rate, and the relatively low cost of living on campus and in the town means that our students get real value for their money.

This page notes the tuition fee system in operation in 2007, as it applies to Loughborough University, and answers the most commonly asked questions.

We understand that the maximum higher tuition fee for UK/EU students in the 2008/09 academic year has been set by the Government at £3,145, and it is expected that Loughborough University will adopt this fee.

Note: Residents of the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man will pay a fee over the amounts stated on this page. Please contact the International Office (click here) for more information

How much will the tuition fee be?

The tuition fee for the 2007/08 academic year for all full-time undergraduate degree courses, including the Science and Engineering Foundation year, will be £3,070 for UK and EU students entering in October 2007. The fee will be subject to an inflationary adjustment in subsequent years.

Residents of the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man will pay a fee over this amount. Please contact the International Office for more information.

How much will my sandwich/professional placement cost?

The placement year tuition fee will be £625 for the 2007/8 academic year. Students studying Construction Engineering Management programme will undertake their 12 month sandwich placement in two separate six month periods over two successive academic years. In the first of these two years these students will be charged the full tuition fee (£3070 in 2007/8). In the second year they will pay the sandwich fee (£625 in 2007/8).

When will I pay my tuition fee?

Most UK/EU students will be given the option of deferring the payment of all or part of their tuition fees until after they leave higher education and are earning £15,000 or more. If you are eligible and you choose this option, the relevant amount will be paid on your behalf by the Student Loans Company who will issue you with a loan to cover the amount.

Are there any other costs?

Whilst all tuition fees for our undergraduate degree courses are the same, there are a number of extra costs inherent in studying on certain courses. These typically relate to the cost of personal safety equipment (for lab work), field trip costs (for geography students) and sports kits. These will be in addition to general study costs such as books, stationery, lecture notes and photocopying.

  • Students on courses with significant laboratory content are likely to need to purchase a laboratory coat (roughly £25), safety shoes (roughly £35) and pay a locker deposit (around £40).
  • Final-year dissertation requirements may increase normal spending on printing and photocopying. Also some additional travel costs may be involved.
  • You may wish to purchase or upgrade your own computer hardware or software, though this is not compulsory. Where necessary, departments offer access to IT facilities.

As well as these general other costs, some course-specific costs may also arise. The list below, showing estimated costs in the 2006/07 academic year, should help you to see roughly how much the costs will be for your course.

The following approximate values for course-specific extra costs typically incurred in the 2006/07 academic year should be taken into consideration when budgeting for your course.
