2007/08 Bursary Scheme for Full-time UK Undergraduates Who Started in 2007
Important Information
Please read the following important information about consenting to share information with the University.
In order to decide whether you are entitled to a bursary and to administer any bursary resulting from the assessment, the University will need access to information from your Student Finance Application (PN1 form in England and Wales) and information resulting from it. To allow this to happen, both you and your sponsors (usually your parents or guardians) will need to have given consent for this information to be shared with the University when completing your Student Finance Application form.
To give your consent after submitting your finance application, both you and your sponsors should contact Student Finance Direct on tel: 0845 6034016. Please have available your Art ID number and your secret answer.
Once you are certain that you and your sponsors have given the necessary consent this year, please contact the Bursaries and Scholarships Information Service (see contact details below) to check if you are entitled to a bursary.
The following is an introduction to the bursary scheme in operation for students entering the University in 2007. Terms and Conditions apply (click here).
OVERVIEW OF THE SCHEME
The University is pleased to be operating a bursary scheme for full-time UK undergraduates who joined the University in 2007. The bursaries are cash payments towards living and course costs, with no ‘in-kind’ elements, and, subject to certain conditions, they will be renewed for each year of the course.
How much will the bursaries be worth?
The value of the bursaries will depend on annual household income and will be based upon the results of the annual means-testing process carried out by local authorities (or their equivalent in Scotland and Northern Ireland) in accordance with Government regulations.
The values of the bursaries will be as follows:
| Household Income | Under 21 on entry | 21 or over on entry |
|---|---|---|
| Up to £17,910 | £1,330 | £2,660 |
| £17911 to £20,000 | £1,125 | £2,250 |
| £20,001 to £23,000 | £820 | £1,640 |
| £23,001 to £26,750 | £615 | £1,230 |
| £26,751 to £30,250 | £410 | £820 |
| £30,251 to £33,750 | £205 | £410 |
| £33,751 and above | £0 | £0 |
Are there eligibility conditions?
Yes. In order to be eligible for consideration, you will need to be:
- a permanent resident of the United Kingdom (this excludes Isle of Man and Channel Islands residents) in accordance with the relevant regulations and eligible for a UK government student maintenance/ living costs loan
- liable for the tuition fee of £3,070
- undertaking an undergraduate degree course at Loughborough University as a full-time student, and you started in Autumn 2007
In addition, to be considered for a higher level bursary, as well as being 21 or over on entry, you will be required to have commenced the first year of a full-time undergraduate degree programme and, if you have undertaken undergraduate studies previously, either at Loughborough University or elsewhere, you must have been 21 or over at the start of those previous studies.
Care leavers may also be entitled to a higher level bursary. If you were in care prior to first entering the University, please contact Kay Bridger, who will be able to tell you whether you are eligible for a Care Leavers Bursary. K.M.Bridger@lboro.ac.uk
Please note: students who already have an honours degree from a UK institution are not entitled to a bursary award.
How will I know whether I will receive a bursary?
If you meet the above conditions and your household income after means-testing is no higher than £33,750 a year, you could well be entitled to an award. If you qualify for a bursary and you and your sponsors (usually parents) have given consent to share your information with the University when making your student finance application you will normally be advised of your eligibility either before, or soon after, the start of the autumn term. For more information about giving consent to share information with the University see ‘Important Information’ above.
How will the means-testing process work?
General guidance can be found on the Directgov website. Your local authority should also be able to give you information about this.
How will the bursaries be paid?
It is anticipated that the bursary will be paid into your bank account in three instalments.
Will the bursary be renewed for each year of my course?
If you pass your end of year examinations and proceed to the next academic year of your course, the bursary will be renewed subject to certain conditions including the income threshold continuing to be met. If you undertake a sandwich version of the course (ie. a placement year), the bursary will not be paid in the sandwich year (normally year 3), but the fees for that year will be very much lower (around £610 in 2007/08).
Where can I find out more information?
If you need further information about the scheme, the Bursaries and Scholarships Information Service will be pleased to help:
