An introduction from the Vice Chancellor

A defining moment is a moment in time in which a situation is seen to start to change. We learn from them, we grow from them, they challenge us, and they can help us to choose our next steps.

Our defining moments, as an institution or as individuals, are built from the opportunities that lay in front of us, which we decide to action.

2014/15 has been a year of outstanding achievements for the University. Each achievement has created a defining moment which has in some way altered the future for our university.

Securing our position in the top 15 of all major UK league tables and being named as Whatuni? University of the Year has enhanced our reputation, generating a number of benefits - from attracting more students and new members of staff, to widening our partnerships with external partners.

Our new campus in London and the launch of the Advanced Technology Innovation Centre here in Loughborough, will provide new opportunities for our students and partners to create their own success.

These defining moments, alongside many others, have cemented our position as one of the UK’s strongest, leading higher education establishments – a status that can only lend positive support to our progression and development in the future.

By achieving our very best, we are also inspiring those around us to achieve their best too. We want all those connected to Loughborough University to make every year count and use the opportunities we provide to achieve their own defining moments that will set them on track for a bright future.

It’s about the opportunities and challenges he faced and the significant impact he had on a national organisation – identifying and helping them to achieve energy savings of around £800,000 a year - a moment that secured him a graduate role before he completed his studies.
